Wolfgang Ruf (musicologist)

Wolfgang Ruf (born August 29, 1941 in Radolfzell ) is a German musicologist and professor emeritus.

Life

After working in the Foreign Office, Wolfgang Ruf completed a degree in musicology and history at the University of Freiburg im Breisgau a . a. with Hans Heinrich Eggebrecht and Rolf Damman . In 1974 he became a Dr. phil. PhD. Until 1985, Ruf was Eggebrecht's research assistant at the Musicological Institute in Freiburg.

In 1984 he qualified as a professor and in 1985 was offered a professorship for musicology at the University of Mainz . From 1994 to 2006 Ruf worked at the University of Halle . From 1995 to 2009 he was President of the international Georg Friedrich Händel Society in Halle (Saale). In 1999 he became the editor (with Terence Best) of the Halle Handel Edition .

He is married to the musicologist Kathrin Eberl-Ruf .
