Wolfgang Schaper
Wolfgang Schaper (born January 11, 1934 in Oschersleben ) is a German cardiologist .
After graduating from high school, Schaper studied medicine in Halle (Saale) and received his doctorate there in 1957. From 1960 he was head of the cardiovascular laboratory at the Janssen Research Foundation in Beerse / Belgium. He completed his habilitation in 1967 at the KU Leuven in Belgium. From 1972 until his retirement in 2004 he was Director of the Experimental Cardiology Department at the Max Planck Institute for Physiological and Clinical Research in Bad Nauheim and its Managing Director for many years. From 1973 he was honorary professor for experimental cardiology at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen . From 1976 to 1989 Schaper was honorary managing director of the German Society for Cardiology, Cardiovascular Research .
