Wolfgang Schmid (statistician)

Wolfgang Schmid (born August 6, 1956 in Geislingen an der Steige ) is a German mathematician and professor of statistics at the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder).

Wolfgang Schmid finished his mathematics studies at the University of Ulm in 1982 with the diploma thesis Estimating the Derivation of a Density Using a Smoothed Histogram . In 1984 he was with the work of locating outliers in autoregressive processes for Dr. rer. nat doctorate . In 1991 he was with the work outlier tests and outlier identification for time series habilitation and received the venia legendi for mathematics.

From 1982 to 1995 Wolfgang Schmid worked in the department for stochastics at Ulm University. In the winter semester 1991/1992 he gave a lecture at the University of Trier and in the winter semester 1994/1995 at the University of Stuttgart .

Since 1995 he has been a full professor at the European University Viadrina and holder of the chair “Quantitative Methods, especially Statistics”.

Wolfgang Schmid is the author or co-author of numerous scientific publications that have been published in international journals such as Annals of Statistics , Journal of Multivariate Analysis , Journal of Econometrics and European Journal of Operational Research .

He is a member of the editorial board of the journal AStA Advances in Statistical Analysis and co-editor of the journal Sequential Analysis . His current research areas are statistical analysis of financial markets , statistical process control and environmental statistics .

Since 2012 he has been chairman of the German Statistical Society's scientific association .
