Utricularia mangshanensis is a plant from the genus of the water hoses ( utricularia ) within the family of lentibulariaceae (Lentibulariaceae). This carnivorous plant was first described in 2007.

description

Utricularia mangshanensis is an annual, herbaceous plant that reaches a height of 3 to 6 centimeters when in flower. The numerous stolons , 0.5 to 8 (rarely up to 10) centimeters long and 0.2 to 0.3 millimeters thick, are thread-like and either un- or weakly branched towards the end.

The numerous and sessile leaves lying on the ground arise partly from the base of the inflorescence axis and partly from the stolons, the leaf blades are linear or inversely ovate, 0.8 to 2.2 centimeters long and 1 to 2.5 millimeters wide, membranous and usually irregularly branched, each of the very small branches is up to 6 millimeters long and rounded at the tip, single-nerved with a few irregular side ribs. The numerous traps usually grow on the stolons, rarely on the underside of the blade, there close to the edge. They are egg-shaped, stalked and 0.6 to 0.9 millimeters long, on the side of the opening there are two simple, awl-shaped appendages that act as the trigger for the trap.

The single, upright and unbranched inflorescence axis is 3 to 6 centimeters high, the thread-like flower stem is glabrous and leafless, 2 to 4 centimeters long and 0.4 to 0.7 mm thick. The bracts and bracts stand alone at the base of the inflorescence and are not grown together, the bracts are broadly ovate, rounded at the tip and 0.8 millimeters long, the bracts are elongated-round with a rounded tip and slightly narrower than the bracts.

The one or two, rarely three flowers are on upward, 0.4 to 1.3 centimeters long and 0.2 to 0.3 millimeters thick, bare flower stalks . The barely annoyed, smooth calyx lobes are of unequal shape and size. The upper lobe is broadly ovoid to heart-shaped, has a pointed extension at the end and is 1.5 to 2 millimeters long and wide; the lower, smaller one is ovate to elliptical, oblong-round, with a truncated, notched tip, 1 to 1.5 millimeters long and around 0.6 millimeters wide. The crown is 4 to 6 millimeters long, white and has a yellow sap mark at the base of the lower lip. The upper lip is ovate, elongated and round with a broadly trimmed tip and about the same length as the upper calyx lobe, the lower lip is fan-shaped to ax-shaped, thickened at the base, rounded at the tip, with entire margins, slightly wavy, 3 to 4 millimeters long and 4 up to 5 millimeters wide. The yellow palate is densely covered with short hairs. The 3.5 to 5 millimeter long spur is awl-shaped and slightly bent upwards, slightly longer than the lower lip and at the tip split into two small tapering lobes.

The stamens are curved, around 0.6 millimeters long, the counters of the anthers are clearly defined. The round ovary is bare and single chamber, with a round, almost seated Central placenta is adherent to the outer end of an extension to the upper part of the ovary wall. The stylus is short but clearly recognizable. The scar is two-lobed, the lower one circular and pulled back over the surface of the scar, the upper lip is much smaller, elongated-round or triangular.

distribution

Utricularia mangshanensis is native to the Mangshan Mountains, a nature reserve in the Chinese province of Henan , at an altitude of 750 m in a subtropical climate. It thrives there on wet cliffs between mosses.

Systematics and botanical history

Utricularia mangshanensis was first collected during a botanical excursion in 2003. After further collections in 2004 and the realization that we were dealing with a previously unknown species, G.-W. Hu the first description at the end of 2007, the species epithet refers to the place of discovery.

Utricularia mangshanensis is very similar to Utricularia peranomala , a species that previously monotypically formed the section Kamienskia and in which Utricularia mangshanensis was also placed. It differs from Utricularia peranomala mainly in the irregular branching of the leaves, the ingrown bracts and aprons , the white flower with a yellow sap mark and the split spur.
