Wolfgang Sommer

Wolfgang Sommer (born September 23, 1939 in Berlin ) is pastor of the Evangelical Luth. Bavarian regional church and professor emeritus for church and dogma history . From 1988 to 2004 he was a professor at the Augustana University in Neuendettelsau .

After studying theology and as a vicariate, he was a research assistant at the Church University of Berlin , where he also received his doctorate in 1970 with a thesis on Schleiermacher's Christology. He then worked as a pastor and religion teacher and became a lecturer in church and theological history at the Theological Academy in Celle (1974 to 1986). In 1986 the habilitation for church and dogma history followed with a thesis on the understanding of authority of Lutheran court preachers in the 16th and 17th centuries. From 1986 to 1988 he was a private lecturer in church history at the University of Göttingen . In 1988 he was appointed to the Augustana University. His research focus is on the theology and piety history of the early modern period. In 2011 he was awarded the Wilhelm Freiherr von Pechmann Honorary Prize of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria for his research studies . Detlef Klahr , state superintendent of the Evangelical-Lutheran district of Ostfriesland-Ems, is one of his students .
