Wolfgang Sturm

Wolfgang Sturm (born September 23, 1927 in Jena ; † July 14, 2015 in Braunschweig ) was a German food chemist .

Life

Sturm was a student at the Humanistic High School in Jena, was drafted into the Wehrmacht shortly after the end of the war and then became a prisoner of war. From 1947 to 1952 he studied food chemistry at the University of Jena and then worked successively in the quality control of food in the office for material and goods testing in Altenburg and in a commercial laboratory. In 1957 he switched to the food chemistry research institute of the Hamburg Hygiene Institute . He then headed the analytical and raw materials laboratory of the Bahlsen company in Hanover for 26 years. As an academic student of Helmut Thaler, Sturm received his doctorate from the Technical University of Braunschweig in 1968 . During his many years of industrial activity, Sturm was temporarily a lecturer at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main and worked on cocoa beans in the food industry. Between 1985 and 1992, Sturm worked in the chemical investigation office in Duisburg and then in the food inspection office. He was one of the first food chemists in North Rhine-Westphalia to be hired in the course of official monitoring.

As an expert on hygiene issues, it took part in hearings in the responsible Federal Ministry of the Federal Republic of Germany. It promoted the practical professional responsibility of food chemists for the topics of hygiene, quality management and "Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points" ( HACCP ).

Sturm has emerged as the author and co-author of around 50 publications, numerous lectures and his contributions to the standard work “Food Guide” ( ISBN 978-3527317974 ).
