Wolfgang Taute

Wolfgang Taute (born May 8, 1934 in Berlin ; † November 29, 1995 in Mehren ) was a German prehistorian and university professor.

life and work

After studying in Kiel, Cologne and Tübingen, he received his doctorate in 1962 on stem tip groups in northern Central Europe. During his time as an assistant at the Institute for Prehistory at the University of Tübingen , he also worked on the Tübingen Atlas of the Middle East with a focus on Neolithization. In 1971 he completed his habilitation on the Late Paleolithic and Mesolithic in southern Germany .

From 1980 until his death in 1995 Taute held a professorship for Younger Stone Ages (Mesolithic and Neolithic) at the Institute for Prehistory and Early History at the University of Cologne .

The focus of his research was on the late Paleolithic , Mesolithic and Old Neolithic in northern and southern Germany. He introduced the term beuronia into literature.

Taute died unexpectedly of a stroke during a walk not far from his home in Mehren in the Westerwald.

Volunteering

From 1970 to 1972 Wolfgang Taute was deputy chairman of the German Society for Prehistory and Early History (DGUF).
