Life

Vondey received his master's degree in Japanese Studies and Media Studies from the University of Marburg in 1994 . He lived in Tokyo until 1996 when he studied theology in the United States . After obtaining the Master of Divinity at Pentecostal Theological Seminary in Cleveland (Tennessee) in 1999, he received his PhD in systematic theology and ethics from Marquette University in 2003 based on a thesis on the pneumatology of the Roman Catholic theologian Heribert Mühlen . He then published various publications on the Pentecostal movement and Pentecostal theology. From 2005 he worked (from 2010 as associate professor , from 2015 as professor) at Regent University in Virginia Beach , USA, where he also founded the Center for Renewal Studies , which he directed in 2009.

Vondey is a member of the Steering Committee of the European Study Network for the Worldwide Pentecostal Movement (GloPent), co-editor of PentecoStudies and editor of the book series CHARIS: Christianity & Renewal - Interdisciplinary Studies (Palgrave Macmillan) and Systematic Pentecostal and Charismatic Theology (Bloomsbury T&T Clark). Although a classically trained systematic theologian, one often finds Vondeys classifications as a renewal theologian whose work deals with pneumatology , ecclesiology , ecumenical theology and the dialogue between theology and the natural sciences. His best known work is the ecclesiology People of Bread, while his work Beyond Pentecostalism can be considered his most controversial work. His book Pentecostal Theology: Living the Full Gospel received the 2018 Book Prize from the Society for Pentecostal Studies in the USA.
