Wolfgang Winkler (luge rider)

Wolfgang Winkler (born October 27, 1940 in Tegernsee ) is a former German luge athlete who was a double-seater Olympic champion in 1968.

Wolfgang Winkler started for the Rottach-Egern toboggan club . He won his first German championship title together with L. Eham in 1961, in 1964 he won together with Hans Plenk . In 1966 Winkler achieved his only German championship title in the single-seater, in the double-seater he won in 1966 and 1967 together with Fritz Nachmann . At the Olympic Games in 1968 , Winkler finished eleventh on the single-seater. Together with Fritz Nachmann, he won the bronze medal in the two-seater. Four years later, Winkler also started at the 1972 Olympic Games and finished in 15th place in the individual ranking.

On November 27, 1968, he received the silver laurel leaf from the Federal President.
