Wolfgang vom Schemm

Wolfgang vom Schemm (born September 28, 1920 in Elberfeld , † 2003 ) was a German draftsman and graphic artist .

After attending the Werkkunstschule in Wuppertal-Barmen , Wolfgang vom Schemm devoted himself to illustration and graphics. In 1939 he was awarded the German Art Prize for Caricature and Illumination . After 1945, his popularity grew with the creation of woodcuts and increasingly abstract graphics. He illustrated prints of the Threepenny Opera , as well as editions of the literary works Lederstrumpf and Don Quichotte , among other things . In addition, he developed his own so-called "Uncle Fritz stories".

Vom Schemm also worked as an illustrator for Wuppertal originals and everyday situations and achieved international recognition. In addition to local exhibitions, his works were also exhibited abroad, for example in 1969 at the Woodstock Gallery in London . His work has been honored with the von der Heydt Culture Prize and the Villa Romana Prize. Wolfgang vom Schemm was a member of the German Association of Artists .
