Wolfram Ressel (born July 26, 1960 in Munich ) is a German engineer, professor and rector of the University of Stuttgart .

Live and act

Ressel graduated from the Technical University of Munich with a degree in civil engineering in 1987 . His doctorate as Dr.-Ing. took place in 1994 at the Chair of Transportation and Road Traffic Systems at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich .

From 1993 to 1998 he was managing partner of an engineering office for construction and surveying in Munich. In 1998 Wolfram Ressel accepted the chair for road planning and road construction at the University of Stuttgart. He also became executive director of the Institute for Roads and Transportation.

From 2000 to 2006 he was Dean of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Wolfram Ressel has been rector of the University of Stuttgart since October 1, 2006, and was elected for a further six years in June 2012 and May 2018.

Ressel was and is active in various committees and organizations, including as deputy chairman from April 2014 to March 2016, then until March 2018 as chairman of the Baden-Württemberg State Rectors' Conference. From 2016 to 2018 he was also Vice President of the TU9 German Institutes of Technology eV, the association of nine leading technical universities in Germany, of which he has been President since January 1, 2018. He is also an advisory board member for science, research and the arts at Baden-Württemberg International .

In June 2015, Ressel was awarded an honorary doctorate in Saint Petersburg as part of the anniversary celebration of “25 years of strategic partnership” between the University of Stuttgart and the Polytechnic University of Saint Petersburg .
