Baden-Württemberg International , Society for International Economic and Scientific Cooperation mbH (abbr. BW-i), based in Stuttgart, is the business and science promotion company of the state of Baden-Württemberg . The company is responsible for supporting Baden-Württemberg companies in opening up foreign markets and for optimally positioning the south-west German business and science location worldwide.

history

BW-i was founded as the “Export Foundation Baden-Württemberg” by the then Prime Minister of Baden-Württemberg Lothar Späth ( CDU ) in 1984 to support medium-sized companies in opening up foreign markets. In 1987 the name was changed to Foundation Foreign Trade Baden-Württemberg. The company was converted into the legal form of a GmbH in 1990, and the Society for International Economic Cooperation Baden-Württemberg mbH was created. At this point in time, the business areas international projects, trade promotion and vocational training were added. Since 2004 the company has operated under the name "Baden-Württemberg International - Society for International Economic and Scientific Cooperation Ltd". In 2013, the thematic focus was expanded to include the technology fields of energy and environment, sustainable mobility and mechanical engineering , life sciences and health economics, which are particularly relevant for the development of Baden-Württemberg .

Fields of activity

As the competence center of the state of Baden-Württemberg for the internationalization of business and science, the company supports domestic and foreign companies and clusters, research institutions and universities, as well as regions and municipalities in internationalization. In addition, the regional company helps Baden-Württemberg companies to open up foreign markets.
