history

On March 19, 1987, the Gesellschaft für Technologietransfer mbH was founded by Michael Schönemann as the sole shareholder. The current chairman of the board of directors, Ulrich Dietz, was the managing director when it was founded and gradually took over 100% of the shares (until the IPO in 1999). The company name was based on the TZI (Transfer Center for Information Technology, Steinbeis Foundation), which was headed by Michael Schoenemann and which he founded in 1985.

The first product on the market in 1990 was GRIT, a development environment for graphic surfaces. In 1993 the company developed a production, planning and control system for Deutsche Post AG that was used in more than 60 mail centers . In 1996, the form manager GRIT was transformed into an independent BPM suite called inspire . In 2007 it was decided to completely stop software development. In 2008, the business process management (BPM) division was transferred to its own GmbH, Inspire Technologies GmbH, through a management buy-out .

On June 28, 1999, the company went public on the Neuer Markt . The company has operated under its current name since then. In 2001 GFT acquired emagine , an IT subsidiary of Deutsche Bank . A new development center with around 500 IT banking specialists in Barcelona was added. Also in 2001, GFT founded the subsidiary GFT UK Ltd. in England.

In 2002 the company achieved sales of EUR 155.74 million with 1,100 employees. By 2003, GFT built up an international production model with software development centers in Germany, Spain, Hungary and India. GFT expanded to South America in 2005 with the order to modernize the IT applications of a Brazilian financial services provider.

On June 11, 2008, the Annual General Meeting decided to move the headquarters from St. Georgen in the Black Forest to Stuttgart .
