The wolf monument is located 800 meters south of the former hunting lodge (forester's house) in Schwiederschwende in the Harz Mountains . It is a reminder that the last wolf in the area of ​​the Lower Harz was killed at this point and also serves as a stone signpost. The wolf monument was erected in 1824.

The memorial is inscribed on the back with the following slogan: "Under the government of Count Jost Christian zu Stolberg-Roßla , the last wolf was killed here in January 1724."

The distance is marked with " Rossla 1. M." on the front. specified. The distances to five nearby villages are given in hours on the side walls:

"Schwiederschwende ¼ St., Hayn 1 St., Dietersdorf ½ St., Breitenbach ¾ St. and Wolfsberg ¾ St."

The monument was made by a stonemason named Thieme from Lodersleben .

The wolf face fell victim to vandalism again and again. Due to the ongoing destruction, it was left in its current condition after several repairs since around 1850.
