The Wolf Hill Tower was an observation tower on the 211  m high Wolf Hill on the eastern edge of Albert Park in the Dresden Heath . The 25-meter-high reinforced concrete tower was once built by the city building officer, Hans Erlwein . A citizens' initiative from Dresden would like to build a tower again on the site. Whether in historical or modern form has not yet been decided.

history

According to plans by Hans Erlwein , a wooden observation tower that had existed since 1886 was replaced by a 25-meter-high stone tower in 1911, which offered a wide view of the city of Dresden . Shortly before the end of the war, the Wehrmacht blew it up in May 1945 so as not to leave it to the Soviets as an observation post. The remainder is listed .

reconstruction

The SPD city councilor Kristin Sturm from the nearby Dresden district of Rochwitz founded the association “Reconstruction Wolfshügelturm” with like-minded people in September 2018, and Dresden’s finance mayor Peter Lames was elected chairman. The association wants to collect donations and rebuild the tower without any funding from the city in order to make it accessible again as a lookout point in the heath.

architecture

The tower with twelve columns and arched windows rose above a substructure. Inside, two spiral staircases, one inside the other, led to the viewing platform under the copper tower dome. The 25 meter high tower on Wolfshügel was once one of the most popular viewpoints in Dresden.
