Wolfsstein (Melsungen)

The Wolfsstein is a hunter's monument in the urban forest of Melsungen in the Schwalm-Eder district in northern Hesse , in a popular mixed-forest hiking and Nordic walking area. The memorial is one of 30 wolf stones in Germany .

history

On November 18, 1805, the last Hessian free-living wolf was hunted by Rittmeister "von Wolf" on the site of today's Wolfsstein between Melgershausen and Melsungen on the Kesselkopf . On August 5, 1806, a weathered 1 m high, 0.2 m wide early classical sandstone monument with an epigram was erected at the Niederstreckungstelle to commemorate the last wolf hunt in Hesse .
