Wollingerode

Wollingerode is a desert near Ilsenburg in what is now the Harz district . The desert is registered under the registration number 428301055 in the local monument register as a soil monument.

history

Wollingerode was built in the 9th century at the foot of the Breitenberg on the northern edge of the Harz Mountains and has been known as a villa or village since the 12th century.

On April 2, 1163, Bishop Gero von Halberstadt had the Ilsenburg Monastery issued a certificate in which he took account of the various legal reductions that the village of Wollingerode had experienced and because the St. Viti chapel there was insufficiently endowed to maintain a priest to be able to transfer the cura of the entire village to the Burchardi Church, which is also located there.

At the end of the 15th century the place was already desolate.

In May 2016, human skeletons were found during construction work on private property, which point to the former cemetery in Wollingerode.
