Grobin district 1820

The Wolost Polangen (Russian Полангенская волость, lit. Palangos valsčius , Lat. Palangas pagasta ) was an administrative unit ( Wolost ) in the Russian Empire . The center was Polangen , now a place in the township of Palanga .

administration

The area belonged to the Duchy of Samogitia as "Palangos valsčius" .

In 1819 the Wolost Polangen was handed over to the Courland Governorate by decree of Tsar Alexander I ; thus the government bordered directly on the province of East Prussia . As part of Kurland, the Wolost Polangen belonged to the Grobin district .

According to Paul Anton Fedor Konstantin Possart in “The Russian Empire”, the area around Polangen was torn away from the “ Wilna Gouvernement ” in 1819 and returned to the same in 1827. It moved in 1819 from the county Telschi for county Grobin . The Kovno governorate was not formed until 1843, so that the Vilna governorate reached as far as Polangen at that time. The reason given for the transfer to Courland was "more convenient administration".

After the formation of the Baltic States, Palanga was returned to Lithuania in 1920 as part of a border adjustment with Latvia.

On September 28, 1920, the Lithuanian-Latvian border treaty was signed in Riga. On March 21, 1921, strips from Palanga and Sventoji were assigned to Lithuania.

During the Second World War the area belonged to Krottingen County, Schaulen-Land County, General District Lithuania.
