The municipality of Palanga (lit. Palangos miesto savivaldybė ) is a municipality in Lithuania . There is a town ( Palanga ), two health resorts (Palanga and Šventoji ) and the port of Šventoji in the municipality .

Politics and administration

The municipality is represented by the Palanga City Council ( Palangos miesto savivaldybės taryba ). The executive power is exercised by the administration of the municipality of Palanga ( Palangos savivaldybės administracija ). There is the administrative district of Šventoji .

Residents

In 1959 there were only 5,685 inhabitants. In 2001 there were 17,623 and in 2011 around 15,732 inhabitants, 94.32% Lithuanians (14,839), 2.75% Russians (433), 0.97% Latvians (152), 0.61% Ukrainians (96), 0.25 % Belarusians (39) and 0.21% Poles (33).

history

In 1953 Palanga became a republic city in Soviet Lithuania . 1970 came Šventoji with its settlements. In 1995 the community ( Palangos miesto savivaldybė ) was established.
