Wolverine is a progressive metal band from Sweden , which was founded in 1995 by Stefan Zell and Marcus Losbjer.

history

Soon after the band was founded, Stefan Zell's brother Mikael joined the band. When the band released their first EP Fervent Dream on Zizania Entertainment Group in November 1999 , the band style had been changed to progressive metal . Fervent Dream made the band known worldwide. The EP was sold out within a short time. During this time the band played live outside of Sweden for the first time. In 2000 the band signed a contract with Emerald Factory. In spring 2001 Fervent Dream was released as a remixed version, which included two bonus songs. During the summer the band toured Germany and then recorded the album The Window Purpose , which was released in December 2001 on the new label "DVS Records". This album was also celebrated by critics and fans. Among other things, it was voted "Album of the Month" by the Dutch metal magazine Aardschok . After the release, Wolverine started an extensive European tour. In 2002 a contract was signed with Elitist Records. In 2003 the album Cold Light of Monday was released there. This album showed the darkest sides of the band. Showered with hymns of praise from critics, the album was also celebrated by major magazines such as Kerrang and Metal Hammer . The band played live in 2003 in London as the opening act for Anathema . The band released the album The Window Purpose in 2005 . While the artwork was changed and the recordings were remixed, the album now included a new recording of the title Fervent Dream . Later that year Wolverine headlined the ProgPower Europe Festival for the third time with Pain of Salvation . In 2006 the band separated from the Elitist / Earache Records label and signed a contract with Candlelight Records . The fourth studio album Still was released, which was recorded at Spacelab Studios in Germany. The album contains 9 songs, which defined the unmistakable Wolverine sound from then on. Among other things, the album received the rating 5/5 in the Kerrang! . Andreas "Bagge" Baglien left the band after 8 years and was replaced by Per Henriksson. In 2010 the album Communication Lost was supposed to be released. After some members left the band in 2009, the release date of the new album was unclear. Communication Lost was released on May 23, 2011. Another work by the band was released in 2016: Machina Viva .

style

Wolverine started out playing Death Metal with melodic influences. With the release of the first EP, the band switched to the progressive metal camp and since then has often processed borrowings from other genres such as trip-hop .

Concerts

The band has performed at several festivals so far, including four times ProgPower Europe (1999, 2001, 2005, 2008), Sweden Rock Festival 2006, ProgPower UK 2007 and Bloodstock Open Air 2008.
