The Wombats RC is an Austrian rugby team . The team was founded in 2003 by a handful of rugby enthusiasts in Bad Fischau-Brunn and was able to establish itself very quickly in the domestic rugby scene , not least because of the excellent work of Australian coach Colin McLachlan.

Due to the lively influx of players and the move to Wiener Neustadt in 2004, the handful of players gradually turned into a serious opponent. The first sponsors could also be won for the club, which made it possible to buy new clothes and training equipment.

In the Austrian Sevens Championship in the 2003/2004 season, the fifth place out of six was achieved. In the seasons 2004/2005, 2005/2006 and 2006/2007, the Wombats RC took fourth place in the overall table with ten participating teams.

Wombats RC took part in the Austrian Bundesliga in rugby 15 (now Powerade Bundesliga) from 2003 to 2005 in a syndicate with RUFC Graz. Since 2006, the Wombats RC has been part of the Lower Austria XV selection team together with RC Krems.

Since the 2007/2008 season there has been a second Bundesliga, not least at the instigation of the Lower Austrian clubs, in which newer and weaker teams can improve against each other. In the 2007/2008 season, the 1. ORSC Linz made it to the Bundesliga, the RUFC Graz took the opposite route. In addition, the newly founded Carinthia XV player community is taking part in the second Bundesliga in the 2008/2009 season.
