The Woodbury County Courthouse in Sioux City , the Justice and Administration Building ( Courthouse ) of Woodbury County in western US -amerikanischen state of Iowa .
history
After the county was officially established in 1851, the first judicial and administrative seat was initially housed in a log cabin two years later. In 1856 the administration was relocated to Sioux City, but did not yet have a permanent seat. It was not until 1875 that the citizens decided to build an official judicial and administrative building for the county, which was completed three years later. Because the population had risen sharply in the meantime, it was decided in 1914 to build a new and larger building.
The person in charge of the construction of architect William L. Steele was referring George Grant Elmslie and William Gray Purcell as assistants in the plans for the building in the style of Prairie Houses one, which was handed over to its in 1918th
The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973 with reference number 73000744 . In 1996, the building was declared a National Historic Landmark for its architectural significance .
