Woodford Underground Station

Woodford is an above-ground station of the London Underground in the London Borough of Redbridge . It is in the Travelcard tariff zone 4 on Snakes Lane. In 2014, 5.87 million passengers used this station served by the Central Line .

The station was opened on August 22, 1856 by the Eastern Counties Railway (ECR), as part of the newly built line from Stratford to Loughton , which was extended to Ongar nine years later . In 1862 the ECR became part of the Great Eastern Railway , which in turn became part of the London and North Eastern Railway in 1923 .

After some structural adjustments, including the lifting of the level crossing at Snakes Lane, the Central Line metro trains for the first time on December 14, 1947. For eleven months, this was the terminus and passengers in the direction of Epping had to change to shuttle trains pulled by steam locomotives. Finally, on November 21, 1948, the section to the north was connected to the subway network, as was the branch line towards Hainault .
