South Woodford Underground Station

South Woodford is an overground station of the London Underground in the London Borough of Redbridge . It is in the Travelcard tariff zone 4 on George Lane. In 2013, 4.59 million passengers used this station served by the Central Line .

The station was opened on August 22, 1856 under the name South Woodford (George Lane) by the Eastern Counties Railway (ECR), as part of the newly built line from Stratford to Loughton , which was extended nine years later to Ongar . In 1862 the ECR became part of the Great Eastern Railway , which in turn became part of the London and North Eastern Railway in 1923 . After some structural adjustments, the Central Line metro trains for the first time on December 14, 1947. The George Lane suffix was never officially used after it was taken over by London Underground, but is still used on some signs.
