The Woodward Point is a headland on the north coast of South Georgia in the South Atlantic . It is located west of the archipelago The Guides and belongs to the breeding areas of the giant petrel .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 2009 based on the naming of the neighboring Mount Woodward to the south . Its namesake is Roswall Woodward from New Haven , Connecticut , who was the captain of the first US sealer in the waters around South Georgia in 1790 .
