Administrative division of Ethiopia: In knows the division into woredas

A woreda ( German  district ) consists of several kebeles or neighborhood associations that form the smallest unit of a local government in Ethiopia. Woredas are usually grouped into zones , which are a form of regional government; some woredas do not belong to any zone, they work autonomously . There are around 550 woredas in Ethiopia.

Some woredas are based on an earlier foundation, for example the woredas Yem , Gera and Goma. They formed the borders of kingdoms that are now part of Ethiopia. Former provinces of Ethiopia were also divided into woredas. Many woredas, however, are more recent. From 2002, the government gave each woreda more authority , staff and budget .
