Workin 'Together is a music album by Ike & Tina Turner .
history
Ike and Tina Turner recorded the album Workin 'Together in 1970. The album was released in December 1970. According to the Allmusic Guide, it is considered the best and most successful album by the R&B duo. It reached 25th place in the US pop album charts and 2nd place in the Black Charts . It was on the pop album charts for a total of 38 weeks. In Germany the album even made it to 12th place in the album charts and the single Proud Mary reached 21st place in the German single charts.
The album is characterized by R&B arrangements of well-known contemporary pop songs. The arrangement of Ike Turner gave the Creedence Clearwater Revival song Proud Mary a completely new sound. It begins with a spoken introduction by Tina Turner, then begins very slowly (slow, nice and easy) , and then ends in the second part at an exaggerated pace (nice and rough) . In this version, the song became a live performance classic by Ike and Tina Turner. Solomon Burke had already covered the song in 1969 and had a minor hit with it. Burke later claimed to have recommended the title to Ike Turner.
With The Way You Love Me , You Can Have It and Goodbye, So Long , the album contains three new recordings of older tracks by Ike & Tina Turner. The original version of The Way You Love Me can be found on the debut LP The Soul Of Ike & Tina Turner (1960). A live version of You Can Have It was released under the title It's All Over on the LP The Ike & Tina Turner Show Live Vol.2 (1965) and Goodbye, So Long was a single on the Modern label in 1965 .
The song Funkier Than A Mosquito's Tweeter - a composition by Tina Turner's sister Aillene Bullock - was covered in 1974 by Nina Simone (on her LP It Is Finished ).
In 2001 the album was first released on CD.
