The World Trade Bridge is one of four international bridges that connect Laredo in the United States and Nuevo Laredo in Mexico across the Rio Grande . It is operated by the City of Laredo and the Secretaría de Comunicaciones y Transportes . The bridge is also known as Laredo International Bridge 4.
history
Construction of the bridge began on September 30, 1998 and was completed on April 15, 2000. The bridge was named in memory of a free world market, because international trade is a core aspect of the economy of Laredo and Nuevo Laredo. The bridge was built to relieve traffic from Interstate 35 through Laredo. Before the construction of the bridge, commercial traffic could only get through the Juarez-Lincoln International Bridge or the Colombia-Solidarity Bridge in Nuevo León , which is further north .
