WorldcupWiki

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The WorldcupWiki ( WCW ) was a project for the joint creation of a free and neutral information and communication platform on football , especially on football world championships and European football championships . The WorldcupWiki made it possible for every internet user to publish news on a wide range of topics. For this it used the wiki software MediaWiki .

The WorldcupWiki included information on the topics of venues, teams, tourism, fixtures, fans, stories and more.

According to the wiki principle, everyone was allowed to participate in the design and content. The texts and images were usually subject to the GNU Free Documentation License .

The project was based on an idea from the Stuttgart Region Economic Development Corporation , the Stuttgarter Zeitung and the Stuttgarter Nachrichten . The web platform, which was created for the 2006 soccer World Cup , was founded in Stuttgart and activated at the end of 2005. After the official end of the project, the WorldcupWiki was continued privately from March 2007 to November 2008 with the consent of the initiators mentioned. From March 14, 2007, the renaming to a more neutral name was discussed on the pages.

The WorldcupWiki was shut down in December 2008 and taken from the server.
