history

During the First World War , a large prisoner of war camp was set up in Worms . A final resting place was created on a separate area for a total of 2084 prisoners of war who died . 1700 Russians, 113 British, 116 Italians and 155 Romanians rest here. A memorial was erected for them during the war .

In 1922/23, the CWGC planned to build four main cemeteries in Germany for fallen soldiers and deceased members of the Commonwealth . However, for religious or other reasons not all local graves could be closed. That is why the grave was preserved at the Hochheimer Höhe main cemetery in Worms.

layout

In honor of the 113 British, a reduced cross , the "Cross of Remembrance", was erected in the cemetery and stood on an altar-like base. A memorial wall consisting of several name plaques was created behind it.
