Warmux (formerly Wormux ) is a free , platform-independent clone of the popular computer game series Worms . Most of the members of the development team are French.

The game's development has stagnated since April 2011; On the official blog , one of the developers expressed pessimism about the continuation of the project.

background

Warmux is based on the first parts of the Worms series, which were still designed in 2D comic graphics, while the latter publications were developed entirely in 3D. Game mechanics as well as physics and graphics engine are usually strictly based on the model. However, the player has the choice between various characters known as mascots from the open source world ( GNU , Linux , FreeBSD , KDE , GIMP , OpenOffice.org , Mozilla Firefox , Mozilla Thunderbird etc.).

Gameplay

The game principle was taken exactly from the original: At least two teams with a selectable number of members compete against each other. On a turn-based basis, it is now the player's task to completely eliminate the opposing team (s). An extensive arsenal of weapons is available to him. The weapons are mostly limited to a number of pieces and when using them, the wind must be taken into account in order to be able to attack precisely. Between the rounds, packages are sporadically thrown over the playing field, which can be picked up by the characters and fill up or expand the supply of weapons, tools and life energy. The effects of the weapons are based on the originals of the Worms series, but have a different look.

The player has the choice between the single player or the multiplayer mode (via LAN and Internet via TCP / IP connection), from version 0.9.0 the AI , which was previously only available as a cheat , is now officially and easily accessible.
