The Woświn (German Wothschwiensee ) is an inland lake in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship in Poland .

The lake is located in Western Pomerania , about 60 kilometers east of Szczecin . It has the shape of a channel lake , is 9.5 kilometers long and up to 2 kilometers wide in the south. A belt of deciduous forest surrounds the lake on the shore. Directly on the lake are only the places Trzebawie (Altenfließ) and Cieszyno (Teschendorf) on the east bank and Oświno (Marienhagen) on the west bank, as well as the deserted area Schwerinshof .

One of the tributaries of the lake is the Dolgenbach in the south . The outflow is in the northeast of the Oberbach , which leads to the nearby Mellensee and from there flows further north as Ukleja (Ückeley) .

Slavic ramparts from prehistoric times exist on the south bank and on a promontory called Teufelsdamm . The first mention of the lake dates back to 1284, when the Pomeranian Duke Bogislaw IV. The monastery Dünamünde the possession of the then Woswin lake called confirmed.

Later, probably from the 14th century, the lake came into the possession of the noble von Wedel family . At least since the 18th century and until 1945 it belonged to the surrounding estates of Schwerin , Mellen , Altenfließ , Vehlingsdorf and Marienhagen belonging to the Wedel family . Since 1818 the lake has been in the area of the Regenwalde district .

In 1859 the Stargard – Danzig railway was built on the southern edge of the lake . In the course of this, the water level of the lake was lowered so that the lake has since ended at the newly built railway embankment.

After 1945 the lake, like all of Western Pomerania, came to Poland. He received the Polish name Woświn , which was formed after the historical name Woswin, which was handed down from the 13th century .
