Wrangel's Palace

The Wrangelsche Palais is a building on the island Riddarholmen near Stockholm 's Old Town. The Svea hovrätt has been housed in the building since 1756 .

The southern round tower dates from the 1930s and was part of a fortification that King Gustav Wasa had built. A palace was built around 1630, which was designed by the architect Nicodemus Tessin the Elder between 1652 and 1670 . Ä. for Field Marshal Carl Gustav Wrangel was expanded. Further renovations were necessary after a fire in 1693. In 1697 the palace was briefly the seat of the royal families after the old castle "Tre Kronor" was burned down. After another fire in Wrangel's palace, it was changed by CG Gjörwell in 1802. Extensive restoration and renovation work took place between 1948 and 1950 and 1985.

In the 17th century the building was one of the largest private palaces in Stockholm and had a courtyard in several stages. Today's smooth walls come mainly from the reconstruction in 1802. The sandstone portal and a few elements to the courtyard still exist from the earlier richly decorated facade. During the last restoration, the building was given its original white plaster with gray details.
