The Wright Glacier is a 30 km long valley glaciers in the Boundary Ranges in Alaska (USA) and British Columbia (Canada). The Wright Glacier was named after George Frederick Wright (1838–1921), an American geologist.
geography
Wright Glacier is located north of the Stikine Icecap 55 km east-northeast of Juneau , the capital of Alaska. The nutrient area of the glacier is in British Columbia at an altitude of 1900 m . The glacier flows in a north-westerly direction. After about 15 km he passes the border to Alaska. It is flanked by the border peaks Mount Fremont Morse in the west and Mount Ogden in the east. In the lower section, the mean glacier width is 2 km. The Wright Glacier ends at a height of about 40 m on a glacial rim lake . This is drained over the 4 km long Wright River to the Taku River .
Glacier development
Between 1984 and 2014 the glacier retreated 1,300 m. The glacier is still in retreat. In 2014 the glacier edge lake stretched over a length of 4.5 km.
