Wu (Shu Han)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Empress Wu (吳 皇后, birth name unknown; † 245 ), formally Empress Mu (穆 皇后, righteous empress ), was an empress of the Shu Han at the time of the three kingdoms . Her father, whose name is not recorded historically, followed Liu Yan to Yi Province (益州, in what is now Sichuan and Chongqing ) when he was appointed governor. Thanks to the friendship between her father and Liu Yan, she married Liu Yan's son Liu Miao (劉 瑁). After his death, she remained unmarried for a long time.

When Liu Bei conquered Liu Zhang's Yi Province (214), he officially separated from Sun Shangxiang (his wife, a sister of Sun Quan ) and married Ms. Wu. When he assumed the title of Prince of Hanzhong in 219, he made her princess. After the fall of the Han dynasty in 220 (after Emperor Xian's abdication in favor of Cao Pi ), Liu Bei assumed the Han title in 221 and founded the Shu Han. In the same year he made his wife empress. After his death in 223, his son and successor Liu Shan honored her as Empress Mother . She died in 245. The Chronicles of the Three Kingdoms does not specify whether Liu Bei was buried with her or with Ms. Gan, Liu Shan's mother.
