King Wǔ Dīng ( Chinese 武丁 ) (*? BC; † 1266 BC) ruled China as the 22nd or 23rd king of the Shang dynasty for 59 years .
He was the son of King Xiao Yi , a nephew of King Pan Geng . During his era, he waged a campaign against the Gui Fang clan . He has appointed the wise courtier Fu Shuo as premier and his wife Fu Hao as general. The Shang dynasty was strongest under his rule. In history, his era was called "Wu Dings Mid-Upswing".
His name is the first documented on contemporary objects of the Chinese dynasties . It is attested on a bowl and on oracle bones .
