Wu Pao-chun ( Chinese  吳寶春 , Pinyin Wú Bǎochūn ; born September 5, 1970 in Pingtung County , Taiwan ) is a Taiwanese master baker who won over the international baking competition Coupe du Monde de la Boulangerie (the "World Bakery Championship") drew attention.

Life

Wu Pao-chun grew up in the rural area of ​​Pingtung County in southern Taiwan. He came from a humble background, his father died when Wu was ten years old, after which he and his seven siblings were raised by his mother alone. Wu was the youngest child in the family. In order to relieve his family financially, Wu began an apprenticeship as a baker after graduating from junior high school. He learned the traditional baking trade and later went into business for himself as a master baker in the city of Taichung . He opened three branches, but was faced with the problem that under the influence of the polarizing western bread, his customers' tastes changed and his sales began to decline. Wu recognized the need for innovation and devoted himself to researching and inventing new types of dough and bread.

By winning the Coupe du Monde de la Boulangerie regional competition in Taiwan in 2006, Wu and his colleagues Tsao Chi-hsiung and Wen Shi-cheng qualified for the "World Championship" in the same competition in 2008 in Paris. Wu, Tsao, and Wen took second place; Wu Pao-chun was also honored in the “European bread” category for his creation of wine longan bread .

In 2010 the coupe was expanded to include an individual competition, to which the teams of the nations that had occupied the top ten places in the group competition could each send one participant. As a representative of Taiwan, Wu took first place and became world champion with the creation of litchi rose bread , a success that made him famous throughout Taiwan and also made him known in professional circles abroad.

Wu's popularity enabled him to open branches in the Taiwanese metropolises of Taipei and Kaohsiung , where his “world champion bread” was selling well, especially in the period immediately after his triumph.
