Black-spotted ridge-tailed monitor is one in Australia -based species in the genus of lizards ( Varanus ). In English it is known under the names “black-spotted ridge-tailed monitor”, “White's ridged-tailed monitor” and “White's dwarf goanna”. The animals live in the northernmost part of the Northern Territory, Australia . Varanus baritji is a medium-sized, exclusively ground-dwelling species. The species name "baritj" is a word from the Aboriginal language and means "white". The word "white" in this case is a reference to the discoverer of this monitor species, Neville White .
description
Varanus baritji has a prickly, slightly thorny scale dress . In its external appearance, the species is similar to the spiny-tail monitor ( Varanus acanthurus ) . The only thing that distinguishes the two species outwardly is the color pattern and, in contrast to the spiny-tailed monitor, the light and dark dorsal neck stripes and the slightly orange-colored markings on the back are missing. The underside of V. baritji is light yellow. When fully grown, the species reaches a head-trunk length + tail of up to 72 cm.
