Wu Qidi

Wu Qidi ( Chinese  吴启迪 ; * 1947 in Yongjia in Wenzhou ) is a Chinese scientist, President of Tongji University (1995-2003) and since 2003 Deputy Minister of Education of the People's Republic of China.

Life

Wu Qidi studied at Beijing's Tsinghua University and graduated with a bachelor's degree in broadcast technology and a master's degree in automation technology. From 1970 to 1975 she worked in the Chinese industry for eight years. In addition, she was involved in the research institute for standardization in the Ministry of Electrical Industry in Beijing.

In 1985, she was at the ETH Zurich with a thesis "Stability Analysis of control systems with constraints" in the Department of Electrical Engineering Dr. sc. techn. PhD . After a visiting professorship at the ETHZ, she worked at Tongji University in Shanghai as professor, director of the chair for automation, vice dean of the faculty for electrical engineering, vice president of the university and since 1995 as president of Tongji University.

She has been Deputy Minister of Education of the People's Republic of China since 2003, and in this role she is responsible for the higher education system of more than 1,500 Chinese universities with around 20 million students and for vocational training with 12 million vocational students.

She is married with two children and lives in Beijing.
