Wu Yihui

Wu Yihui ( Chinese  吳翼輝  /  吴翼辉 , Pinyin Wú Yìhuī , born November 30, 1887 in Tieling , † March 29, 1961 in Shanghai , People's Republic of China ) was a martial arts master of the last century. The variations of the martial art Liu He Ba Fa that are widespread today can usually be traced back to him and his students.

Life

Yihui grew up in a learned family as the son of government officials in Tieling, northeast China, but later lived in Beijing. Wu Yinhui had a strong talent in martial arts. He was also gifted in calligraphy and drawing .

In 1896 he moved with his family to Kaifeng and was taught at a private school there. In 1897 he moved with his family to Beijing, where he and a classmate who also had interests in martial arts watched the monks fight. In 1990, he began his training with the Combative liuhebafa masters Yan Guo Xing and Chen Guang Di . After entering the Baoding Military Academy in 1903, he graduated in 1907 and was appointed staff officer of the first division of the Beiyang Army .

In 1915 he worked in the State Industry Inventory Department in Beijing. Here he was appointed administrative director. At the same time, he taught literature at a middle school in Kai Feng. From 1928 on he worked as a teacher and civil servant at the South Senior High School in Shanghai and was appointed to the Shanghai Xuhui College in the following year to teach literature and martial arts.

In 1932 he became a martial arts teacher at the Shanghai Youth Association, where he taught Liu He Ba Fa. In 1935 he took his first martial arts exam and was appointed director of the Central Martial Arts Academy in 1936 (by General Zhang Zhi Jiang), which year he also graduated passed his second martial arts exam.

In 1957 he was appointed first librarian at the Shanghai Literature and History Institute.

On March 29, 1958, Wu Yihui died at his home in Shanghai.
