SARS-CoV-2

There were media reports in February 2020 after the SARS-CoV-2 virus was possibly released through carelessness in a BSL-2 laboratory at the WHCDC. The media reports refer to the work The possible origins of 2019-nCoV coronavirus by Botao Xiao and Lei Xiao, which was censored by internet censorship in the People's Republic of China . According to another account, the study was uploaded to ResearchGate and later withdrawn by the authors because they had no direct evidence for the study. The study describes that the host bat of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, the Java horseshoe bat , does not occur in Wuhan, but only in the provinces of Yunnan or Zhejiang, about 900 km away . The authors also describe that bats are not traded as food in the Wuhan fish market. The WHCDC is located about 300 m from the Wuhan fish market.
