FSV Witten

The Wullenstadion is a sports facility in Witten -Annen. It offers space for around 12,000 spectators, has a covered seating area and is the largest stadium in the city. This is where the FSV Witten plays its home games.

history

The stadium was built in 1926-1927 with a job creation measure. The place was Witten's first modern sports facility. During the Second World War , the place was occupied by an anti-aircraft battery and therefore not usable. After the war, VfL Witten played here in the 1947/48 season in what was then the first-class Oberliga West . The greatest success was probably a 6: 1 against the team from Fortuna Düsseldorf .

Todays use

In addition to the football games of the FSV Witten, various championships in athletics and national youth games are regularly held in the Wullenstadion . This is made possible by the eight plastic round and sprint straights. In addition to the grass pitch, there is an additional ash pitch and an artificial turf pitch. The 2005 Westphalia Cup final in football Sportfreunde Siegen - VfL Bochum II took place in this stadium. In addition, Bundesliga clubs played a friendly against FSV Witten in 2006 (Borussia Mönchengladbach) and 2008 (Borussia Dortmund). (2006: 3,800 spectators and 2008: 6,500 spectators). In 2010 an international friendly match with live TV broadcast to Portugal between FC Porto and Trabzonspor took place in front of 4,500 spectators.
