The company has specialized primarily in the manufacture of flat products, pipes and various steel and sheet metal works. Wuppermann AG has a total of five production sites across Europe. The company is 100% family owned.

history

In 1872 Theodor Wuppermann founded the Wuppermann company in Düsseldorf-Oberbilk , which manufactured semi-finished products and forgings. In 1879 the entrepreneur sold his plant in Düsseldorf and relocated the company headquarters to Leverkusen. In 1888, the Wuppermann company manufactured steel straps for the first time. At the beginning of the 20th century, Wuppermann AG grew to 400 employees. In 1924, the founder's grandson became the company's managing director. In 1930 the production of cold-rolled profiles started for the first time. Little is known about the time of the Second World War in connection with today's Wuppermann AG. In 1964, Wuppermann took over the Austrian iron and metal works Altmünster GmbH, or "EMA" for short, which was renamed Wuppermann Metalltechnik GmbH in 1991. In 1971 the company took a share in Rohrtechnik Osthoff GmbH in Burgbernheim . At the time of the steel crisis , the rolling mill in Leverkusen was bought by Friedrich Krupp AG . One year later, Rohrtechnik Osthoff GmbH was completely taken over and called Wuppermann Rohrtechnik GmbH. In 1985, today's Wuppermann Group was established under the management of the holding company Wuppermann Industrie und Handel GmbH, which was renamed into today's Wuppermann AG in 2000. Also in 2000, Wuppermann Staal Nederland BV was founded in Moerdijk, the Netherlands, for broadband galvanizing and processing. In the following years numerous small companies were taken over within Europe. In 2015, the Wuppermann Group celebrates the laying of the foundation stone for the new plant in Hungary. In full operation, Wuppermann Hungary Kft. Will employ around 200 people and have a processing capacity of 500,000 tons of steel per year. With a volume of 100 million euros, this is the largest investment in the company's history. In the same year, Wuppermann Inc. was founded in Chicago , Illinois .

Wuppermann AG is currently represented by subsidiaries in the following countries: Germany , France , Austria , Poland , Switzerland , the Netherlands , Romania , Sweden , the Czech Republic and Hungary .

Today the company is divided into two business areas, the Flat business area and the Tube business area.

Technologies

  • Technology for galvanizing hot-rolled strip steel: The technology was conceived by Theodor Wuppermann in 1989 and laid the foundation for a significant part of today's activities.

Others

In 1986 the Wuppermann-Bildungswerk was founded together with the city of Leverkusen. In 2004 the municipal secondary school in Scharnhorststraße Leverkusen was renamed Theodor Wuppermann School in honor of Theodor Wuppermann .
