The club has a boathouse on the Ennepetal bank of the Beyenburger reservoir , which has a boat storage room, weight room, changing rooms, showers and sanitary facilities as well as a club bar .

history

The club was founded in 1924 as Barmer Paddlervereinigung eV . The first boathouse was a 30 m² wooden building on the (at that time considerably smaller) Beyenburger reservoir . In 1926 the building was expanded to include a kitchen, changing and sleeping rooms and a new boat landing stage. In 1927, the 1st Bergische Canoe Fighting Games were held in the Uelfebad , with relay races , lance piercing and Eskimo races being part of the program.

In early 1928 there were internal quarrels. As a result, a good dozen members left the club and founded a new club, the Verein für Kanusport Barmen eV

In 1936, at the behest of the National Socialist Reich Association for Physical Education, the Barmer Paddervereinigung, the rowing club Hügel and the Faltbootfreunde Barmen were merged to form the new Wuppertaler Kanu-Club . The rowing club Hügel was founded in 1931 and in 1932 the Barmer Paddlergilde ceded an area for the construction of a boathouse. The Faltbootfreunde Barmen, founded in 1930, owned a boathouse on the Wupper in Wilhelmstal .

In 1952, the expansion of the Beyenburger reservoir made it necessary to build a new boathouse, which is still used today.

In 1977 the WKC joined the Kanu-Sportgemeinschaft Wuppertal which had been founded six years earlier .

The club participated in German championships from 1949. In addition to numerous German champions, he provided several World Cup and one Olympic participant.
