Worm worm

The colloquial expression Wupperwurm denotes the official logo (also city signet ) of the Bergisch city of Wuppertal . The logo symbolizes the Wuppertal suspension railway and, in the form of the letter W, the Wupper river , which flows through the city.

history

The Wupper worm was developed by Albrecht Ade , who from 1960 to 1970 (1932 *) lecturer for typography and graphic design at the Art School Wuppertal was active in the 1960s developed . Since then, municipal organizations and letterheads of the city's correspondence have borne this city logo. In the 1970s there was a well-known and successful advertising sticker with which the origin from Wuppertal was indicated by a combination of the colors yellow, light green and green as well as the Wupperwurm on a blue background. The slogan used on it, “Wuppertal greets from the Bergisches Land”, enjoyed great popularity among motorists, especially from the city. The logo, in the same color combination as the advertising sticker, also decorates the glass doors of the main entrance of the Wuppertal town hall as a door handle .

In mid-2013, the uniform appearance of the city was redesigned free of charge by the Wuppertal agency Illigen Wolf Partner and thus a revised corporate design was made available. All publications of the city and municipal companies , including, for example, the Wuppertal Zoo , the Wuppertal City Hall , the Swimming Opera and the Wuppertal Theaters , will be gradually converted to this revised guideline. The word mark consists of “Stadt Wuppertal” and a more precise, optionally usable addition that specifies the city's operations.
