Wykeham McNeill

Wykeham McNeill (also: McNeil ; born October 10, 1957 in Kingston ) is a Jamaican politician of the People's National Party (PNP). He has been the Acting Minister of Tourism and Entertainment in Jamaica since January 6, 2012 .

Life

Kenneth Wykeham McNeill was born on October 10, 1957, the youngest of five children of the politician Kenneth McNeill . He grew up in Kingston, his hometown. In 1983 he completed his medical training in Havana , Cuba and then worked as a doctor and surgeon in Saint Ann's Bay and Spanish Town as well as at the Public Hospital and the University Hospital in Kingston. As a sports physician, he worked for the Jamaican national soccer team and in the medical team of the Jamaican Olympic team at the 1996 Olympic Games .

In 1995 he was named a Senator to the Government by Prime Minister Percival J. Patterson . In the 1997 general election he was nominated by the PNP as a candidate in the constituency of Western Westmoreland and elected to the House of Representatives. He was able to win the constituency for the PNP in the 2002, 2007 and 2011 elections. In February 2000 he was appointed Minister of State in the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, and was reappointed after the 2002 election.

When the PNP won the parliamentary elections on December 29, 2011 after years in opposition after 2007 and took over again, Prime Minister Portia Simpson appointed Miller McNeill to her cabinet as Minister of Tourism and Entertainment. He was sworn in as minister on January 6, 2012.
