The wynoochee dam is a small dam at the upper Wynoochee River in Grays Harbor County , the State of Washington . It has an area of 4.54 km² and a usable storage volume of around 86 million m³.
The Wynoochee Dam was completed by the United States Army Corps of Engineers in September 1972. It is primarily used for flood protection and water supply for industrial plants in Aberdeen . In addition, the lake in the Olympic National Forest is a recreation area with campsites and hiking trails on its banks. In 1994 Tacoma Power , part of the public utility company Tacoma Public Utilities , built a power plant that generates 30 million kWh of electricity per year.
