The XM1204 Non-Line-of-Sight Mortar (NLOS-M) (German: connection-less mortar ) was a vehicle concept of the US armed forces. It was intended as part of the Future Combat Systems program and was based on the Manned Ground Vehicle . If implemented, it would be part of the military global information grid . The vehicle, designed as an anti-tank mortar , has a 120 mm mortar turret and a four-man crew.

System description

Concept of the NLOS-M

Among other things, the system should be able to fire precision-guided mortar ammunition with a caliber of 120 mm. It has an automatic fire control system to support infantry maneuvers in urban terrain . An 81 mm mortar should be carried for the dismounted fight. Since it is only lightly armored (the armor only offers protection against ammunition up to a caliber of 30 mm ), protection against anti-tank weapons is implemented by means of distance-active protective measures .

In January 2003 United Defense , now part of BAE Systems , was commissioned by the US Army to develop and build the NLOS-M. With the termination of the FCS program by Defense Secretary Robert Gates , the project was discontinued.
