XMind is brainstorming and mind mapping software developed by Hong Kong-based XMind Ltd. It is available in free and proprietary versions and can be used across platforms as it is based on Java .
history
The development of the software began in 2006, XMind 2007 and XMind 2008 appeared one year later. In 2008, XMind 3 was released. This version was the first to be licensed as open source and also available as a Pro version at a subscription price. In mid-2012, a new major release was published with XMind 2012 and version 3.3. A private sharing service was introduced as a new function. Xmind 2013 (version 3.4) will be released in November 2013. A year later, the current name is changed and Xmind 6 (version 3.5) appears.
Functions
The program is intended to support the user in capturing, structuring and visualizing terms, ideas, learning content or projects. In addition to mind maps, organization charts , Gantt diagrams , cause and effect diagrams , trees and tables can be created. Documents can be shared online. The paid versions have additional functions, e.g. B. a Word , PowerPoint and PDF export.

Awards
XMind 2008 received an award as Best Commercial RCP Application at EclipseCon 2008, XMind 3 was named Best Project for Academia at SourceForge.net Community Choice Awards, and was voted one of the ten best productivity programs of 2010 by PCWorld . Lifehacker.de chose Xmind as the most popular mind mapping software in 2013 and a short time later the 2013 Red Herring Asia Top 100 Award was won.
