Saintois

The Saintois is a landscape in the south of the French department of Meurthe-et-Moselle and in the adjacent northwest of the department of Vosges , where the spelling Xaintois is common. The area belongs to the Grand Est region .

geology

The soil of the Saintois is of maritime origin. Numerous traces of marine fossils can be found in the fields and on the Colline de Sion .

history

Today's Saintois goes back to the former county of Vaudémont , which was independent from the Duchy of Lorraine until the 15th century .
